Join Planlab as a Product Engineer (Design) and help make complex, data-heavy workflows feel clear, useful, and visually strong. You will work at the intersection of product design and frontend engineering, turning user needs into interfaces that people can understand and trust.
Working closely with the CTO and co-founder, you will shape user flows, interaction patterns, and visual quality across core product experiences. Depending on your experience, you may own a clearly scoped improvement or take on broader, more ambiguous design challenges that influence the direction of the product.
You will also help build the shared components, design guidance, and automated checks that let the team and its coding agents ship consistent, high-quality interfaces faster. This is a role for someone who enjoys shipping real software, learning from usage, and improving the product after release.
Planlab is a small, ambitious team building AI software for planning and scheduling problems, and this role offers room to grow in scope, judgment, and influence as the company scales.
- Design and ship interfaces for complex, data-heavy workflows from overall experience down to individual interactions.
- Partner with the CTO and co-founder on user flows, interaction design, and visual quality.
- Work with delivery colleagues to understand customer needs and translate them into practical product improvements.
- Drive implementation using AI coding tools, review generated code, and validate the experience in the running product.
- Build reusable components, design guidance, and automated checks that improve consistency across the product.
- Join customer sessions, use product analytics, and learn where users struggle and what helps them succeed.
- Release work, follow up on real usage, and iterate based on feedback and observed outcomes.
- Collaborate with platform engineers on shared components, performance, and deeper technical changes when needed.
- Salary of £100k to £160k, with scope and support reflecting your experience.
- Share options of 0.25% to 0.75% on a fully diluted basis, with a four-year vest and one-year cliff.

Strong interaction design and visual judgment, with an ability to make complicated software intuitive.
Demonstrated ability to design and build working software, whether through professional work, substantial projects, or internships.
Technical fluency to drive implementation with frontend tools and AI coding assistants.
Clear, structured communication about design decisions, trade-offs, assumptions, and feedback.
Initiative and ownership: you notice problems, explore solutions, and move work forward independently.
Habit of testing assumptions through real use and improving what you ship after release.
Previous software engineering experience, especially with React or another frontend framework, is highly beneficial.
