About Planks

Planks is a new online timber retailer specialising in made-to-measure hardwood planks and panels. We sell directly to customers across the UK, helping DIYers and homeowners get high-quality timber cut exactly to size. We are a small, fast-growing team focused on building a simple, efficient production system and delivering a great product.

About the Role:

We are looking for a Production Carpenter to join the team and help produce our orders. This is a hands-on production role - working with solid timber every day, cutting, machining and finishing made-to-order products at pace, while maintaining a high standard of quality. You will be involved across the whole process:

  • Planing and preparing material
  • Cutting to size
  • Sanding and finishing
  • Checking and improving products and processes

You will play a key role in keeping the workshop running smoothly and producing consistent, high-quality work. If you enjoy working with your hands, being productive, and seeing finished products go out the door every day, you will fit in well here.

Responsibilities:

  • Material Picking – selecting material for order specifications whilst minimising waste.
  • Production – cutting planks and panels accurately and efficiently to order.
  • Finishing – sanding, routing and drilling using belt sander, spindle moulder and mortiser.
  • Quality Control – checking finished pieces and making adjustments before fulfilment.
  • Batch Production – producing standardised products (e.g. shelves and chopping boards).
  • Stock Management – maintaining inventory counts and processing material deliveries.
  • Workshop Maintenance – keeping the workshop clean, safe and well organised.
  • Equipment Maintenance – carrying out routine maintenance on our machines (e.g. blade changes).

About You:

  • 1-3 years experience in a woodworking / carpentry workshop
  • Comfortable working at pace while maintaining quality
  • Practical, hands-on and proactive
  • Takes pride in a clean and organised workspace
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
