Plank Hardware is looking for a Junior Buyer to join our product team. This is a hands-on role covering the full development journey — from initial concept through briefing, costing, supplier management and sample tracking, right through to the product going live on site. You'll work closely with design, brand, marketing and logistics, and take ownership of pricing and range decisions along the way.

We're a fast-moving, detail-oriented team, and increasingly an AI-native one — you'll be expected to use tools like Claude and Cowork to work faster and smarter, not just to be comfortable with them.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and develop newness, creating clear briefs for suppliers.
  • Manage the critical path, ensuring products hit key dates to launch on time.
  • Work closely with design, brand, marketing and logistics teams to ensure a smooth, joined-up launch process.
  • Manage multiple supplier relationships and day-to-day communications across materials and componentry.
  • Organise and track samples from suppliers into the office, communicating with relevant teams on sample statuses.
  • Own supplier briefing documents, ensuring technical and brand specifications are communicated accurately.
  • Coordinate monthly product photography shoots — organising samples and scheduling to ensure product is shoot-ready.
  • Gather and compare pricing across suppliers, presenting recommendations with clear reasoning on cost, quality and lead time.
  • Work out retail prices against target margins, including landed cost and duty considerations where relevant.
  • Build and maintain pricing workbooks that turn cost data into decision-ready recommendations.
  • Conduct regular competitor analysis and comp shops, presenting reasoning behind recommended price points.
Design & Technical Input
  • Input into design and specification changes, liaising with design partners on updates and clarifications.
  • Research colour, material and finish trends, and curate references to support new product briefs.
  • Maintain accurate line detail/margin grid across the range.
Data & AI Tools
  • Maintain buying documents and product data to ensure accuracy across the business.
  • Use AI tools (Claude, Cowork, agents) as part of everyday workflow — for research, data maintenance, reporting and speeding up repetitive tasks.
  • Interpret trade reports and confidently suggest trade actions to maximise sales and reduce risk.
Key Skills
  • Extremely organised, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills — comfortable with margin, pricing and cost calculations.
  • Confident communicator, able to manage supplier relationships professionally.
  • Strong Excel skills (or equivalent), with a desire to build these further.
  • Comfortable with, or keen to learn to apply AI tools such as Claude, Cowork.
  • Self-motivated, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once.
  • Creative, with a genuine passion for interiors and product.
  • Solutions and efficiency-focused — flags issues early and helps solve them.
  • Curious and eager to learn — keen to take on more responsibility over time.
Ideal Experience
  • At least 3 years' experience in a buying, product or merchandising role (junior candidates with the right attitude will be considered).
  • Degree in a product-led, business or design-related subject desirable but not essential.
  • Experience with pricing, costing or supplier sourcing is a strong plus.
