Are you an experienced Supplier Quality Engineer looking for your next contract opportunity within the automotive sector? Planet Recruitment are currently supporting a prestigious British automotive manufacturer in Surrey who are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer to join their team on an initial 3–6 month contract, with strong potential for extension. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supplier performance management, supporting new product introductions and ensuring the delivery of high-quality components across a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The Role
As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for driving supplier quality performance through effective containment actions, root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Working closely with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and third-party inspection providers, you will ensure robust quality controls are maintained to support uninterrupted production.
- CSL inspection plans with defined entry and exit criteria
- Supplier quality reports and trend analysis
- Chargeback documentation and supplier performance tracking
- Accurate documentation of daily inspection activities
Key Responsibilities
- Manage supplier quality concerns and monitor supplier performance through KPIs including PPM and NCRs
- Implement and manage CSL1 and CSL2 containment activities to protect production
- Develop containment plans, inspection processes, and corrective actions based on root cause analysis
- Lead structured problem-solving activities using methodologies such as 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone Analysis
- Coordinate third-party inspection and sorting activities where required
- Manage supplier chargebacks and ensure accountability for quality issues
- Escalate supplier risks and support mitigation plans to minimise business impact
- Produce regular reports detailing supplier performance, quality trends, and CSL status
Previous experience in a supplier-facing quality engineering role within the Automotive, Aerospace, or a similar manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of quality tools and methodologies
Working knowledge of ISO 9001, IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and Control Plans
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and GD&T specifications
Experience using metrology and inspection equipment
Strong analytical skills with experience using Histograms, Trend Charts, PPM, and Defect Rate analysis
Proficient in ERP systems, Quality Management Systems, and Microsoft Office applications
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Quality Management
- IATF 16949 certification
