About The Anthro JV
The Anthro joint venture between Egis and VVB Engineering will provide comprehensive turn-key services for London’s state-of-the-art HS2 gateway station at Old Oak Common. We have been awarded a multi-year contract to deliver MEPHFC (Mechanical, Electrical Public Health, Fire and Communications) systems works.

About The Role
The Slinger/Signaller will play a critical role in supporting all lifting operations across the HS2 Old Oak Common Project. The role involves attaching, securing, and controlling loads during crane operations, as well as providing clear and accurate signalling to Crane Operators. The individual must hold a valid Slinger/Signaller qualification and a Banksman/Traffic Marshal ticket, ensuring safe movement of vehicles, plant, and lifting equipment across a congested site environment. The Slinger/Signaller will work closely with the Lifting Supervisor and Appointed Person (AP) to ensure all lifting activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with LOLER, BS 7121, and HS2 lifting protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Load Attachment & Lifting Operations
- Safely attach and detach loads using appropriate lifting accessories.
- Select the correct slings, chains, lifting gear, and lifting points based on load type and lift plan.
- Inspect lifting accessories before use and report any defects immediately.
- Signalling & Crane Control
- Provide accurate hand signals or radio instructions to Crane Operators.
- Maintain visual contact and ensure clear communication at all times.
- Ensure lifting operations follow the approved method statement and AP lift plan.
- Banksman Duties (Vehicle & Plant Movement)
- Safely guide vehicles, HGVs, plant, and cranes in confined and restricted spaces.
- Maintain traffic routes and ensure safe segregation of plant and pedestrians.
- Support logistics operations as directed by the Lifting Supervisor.
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce exclusion zones and maintain control over lifting areas.
- Ensure compliance with LOLER, BS 7121, PUWER, and HS2 site rules.
- Participate in toolbox talks, shift briefings, and task-specific safety discussions.
- Equipment & Documentation
- Check certification of lifting accessories and equipment before use.
- Inform the Lifting Supervisor of any damaged gear, unsafe conditions, or non-compliance.
- Support the maintenance of lifting gear registers and daily check sheets where required.
- Coordination & Teamwork
- Work closely with Crane Operators, Lifting Supervisors, and APs.
- Assist with setup of lifting areas, barriers, tag lines, and lifting equipment.
- Contribute to safe and efficient lifting operations throughout the site.
Essential
- CPCS Slinger/Signaller (A40) or equivalent
- Banksman / Traffic Marshal qualification
- CSCS card (Blue or above)
- Fit-for-role medical (safety critical)
- Competent in radio and hand-signal communication
