We are looking for an ambitious News and Features Writer to add to the team at Love Rugby League, the UK's leading rugby league website. The ideal candidate is a rugby league fanatic and a talented writer, with some relevant industry experience but most importantly a hunger to learn new skills and further hone their craft with Planet Sport Group.

Reporting to the Love Rugby League Commissioning Editor, the role is a multi-faceted one that primarily consists of writing news and feature content for the website but also assisting in a variety of daily tasks shared between the team, for example, posting on social media, managing live blogs, and creating polls, quizzes and other interactive formats. The postholder will be a real team player, working weekends and evenings around the rugby league calendar as required, and never being afraid to suggest and try new things as part of their career development.

Content Production
  • Produce a variety of web content, including news, opinion, listicles, helpful content, stats-based content and other features.
  • Contribute new content ideas that can appeal to and engage a rugby league audience.
  • Produce content for social media, newsletters and messaging platforms as required.
  • Create quizzes, polls and other interactive formats.
  • Use internal design tools to create infographics and other imagery to complement your writing and increase time spent on page.
  • Carry out other site management tasks as required, for example, re-ordering homepages and sub-editing colleagues' work.
Personal Responsibility
  • Take responsibility for the quality of all your output, making sure it upholds the standards and tone of the brand.
  • Ensure you follow the company's Publishing Guidelines for all content you produce.
  • Ensure you do not publish anything potentially libellous or defamatory that could invite legal action against the company, consulting superiors whenever in doubt before publishing.
  • Maintain a laser focus on Love Rugby League's collective objectives and how your content can contribute towards them.
  • Maintain a keen interest in your own personal performance metrics (page view, engagement time etc) and make proactive adjustments to your practices as required.
  • Contribute fresh ideas to team meetings and discussion forums.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner on your social media, appearances on other media channels, or at any events.
  • Be a champion for everything our brands are doing.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
  • Relevant Degree Level Qualification or equivalent levels of on-the-job experience.
  • Experience of producing written rugby league content.
  • Strong familiarity with social media.

Salary and Benefits
  • 25 days' holiday each holiday year plus statutory bank holidays.
  • An additional day's leave for your birthday, plus for every year of service up to five years.
  • After three months' service you will be automatically enrolled in our company pension scheme.
  • Upon commencement of employment, you will be enrolled in the Company's life assurance plan, currently managed by Canada Life, which will pay out a tax-free lump sum to your beneficiaries of four times your basic salary in the event of your death.
  • After three months' service you will be enrolled in the Company's income protection scheme, currently managed by Canada Life, under which you will be paid a taxable income equivalent to 75% of your basic salary less any state benefits in the event that you are unable to work for a period of 26 weeks due to ill health.
