Job Overview
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Transport Manager to take overall responsibility for the safe, efficient, and compliant running of a busy HGV fleet operation. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable transport professional to join a well-established logistics operation, ensuring vehicles, drivers, and processes meet all UK and EU transport regulations while maintaining high operational standards. You will work closely with other Transport Managers and the wider operations team to ensure the fleet remains compliant, well-maintained, and operating efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain Operator Licence (O-Licence) compliance in line with DVSA and Traffic Commissioner requirements
- Manage fleet records and maintain accurate data on relevant government portals
- Plan and schedule preventative vehicle maintenance with workshops
- Monitor and manage driver defect reporting
- Oversee tachograph downloads, driver hours and infringement monitoring
- Review tachograph data and provide guidance or training where required
- Manage Working Time Directive (WTD) reporting and statistics
- Ensure drivers remain compliant with training, qualifications and legal requirements (UK and EU)
- Maintain fleet records on internal systems and the RHA portal
- Manage vehicle defect tracking and resolve issues promptly
- Escalate health & safety incidents or road traffic accidents appropriately
- Monitor tyre inspections and engage with suppliers to manage costs
- Ensure site Health & Safety procedures are followed
- Ensure all vehicles are compliant with the relevant Operator Licence
- Support driver recruitment and onboarding
- Conduct accident investigations and liaise with insurers and third parties
- Identify opportunities to improve fleet efficiency and operational control
- Provide guidance on transport legislation and best practice to the operations team
- Carry out other duties required to support the transport operation
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years' experience within a transport department working with HGV fleets
- Transport Manager CPC (held for at least 5 years) - essential
- Strong knowledge of UK and EU transport regulations
- Experience managing driver hours, tachographs and compliance systems
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team with other transport managers
- Full UK driving licence required
Desirable
- Class 1 (HGV) licence
- Knowledge of truck and trailer maintenance
