About HIVED

Our team includes talent from Revolut, Deep Mind, Bain, Hello Fresh, ASOS, Apple, and Google.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Junior Backend Engineer to build the platform behind HIVED’s electric parcel delivery network.

You’ll join the Customer Experience (CX) Squad—a cross‑functional team of engineers, product managers, and designers focused on improving parcel delivery for all stakeholders.

  • What you’ll be doing
  • Build and ship features for our recipient‑facing products such as the live tracking page and real‑time delivery updates used by thousands of customers daily.
  • Develop integrations that enable senders—from small shops to large enterprises—to work with HIVED, ensuring robust reliability for day‑to‑day operations.
  • Take tasks from idea to production: writing code, tests, and monitoring what you ship.
  • Participate in code reviews as both author and reviewer, and proactively identify improvements within the squad’s scope.
  • Work closely with Product and UX stakeholders, using quantitative and qualitative signals to guide decisions, measure impact, and share learnings with the squad.
  • What we’re looking for
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in writing clean, performant, and testable code in a typed language (we use Go).
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Highly motivated and hungry to learn, picking up new technologies quickly and improving your craft.
  • A bias toward shipping: you’d rather get something working and improve it than spend weeks on perfection.
  • Care about user experience and customer delight, ensuring the things you build feel genuinely good to use.
  • Nice‑to‑have
  • Experience with building distributed systems and working with cloud platforms (AWS).
  • Familiarity with databases, cloud stacks, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • A side project, open‑source contribution, or showcase of work you’re proud of.
  • Technologies we use
  • Golang, Typescript
  • Git Hub, Grafana
  • Postgres, Dynamo DB
  • AWS (Lambda, SQS, CDK)
  • React, Next. js
  • Claude Code
  • How we reward our team
  • Dynamic hybrid working environment with a diverse and driven team.
  • Huge opportunity for learning in a high‑growth environment, with progression opportunities based on success in the role.
  • 25 days of holiday allowance plus public holidays.
  • 1 Birthday Day Off + 2 Tenure‑Based Additional Days Off.
  • Subsidised private medical insurance including dental, vision and mental health therapy.
  • Bi‑annual performance reviews and tailored development plans.
  • Competitive salary plus EMI option scheme.
  • Annual compensation review.
  • Team lunch provided once a week.
  • Quarterly team socials and annual sports day.
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption policy as day‑1 right.
  • Community volunteer days.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Dog friendly office and depots.
  • Mac Book Air or Windows Laptop (depending on your preference).

How to prepare for a job interview at Planet A Ventures

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Planet A Ventures uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
