Plan b AI is a specialist AI and technology consultancy providing practical, business-focused solutions through the provision of advisory work and managed services. We help organisations optimise operations, reduce costs, and adopt AI and technology solutions safely and strategically. As we enter a high-growth phase, we are hiring a Director of Business Development to lead our commercial growth in the UK.
Role Overview
You will own revenue generation across all consultancy and managed service offerings. This is a senior, consultative sales role focused on building pipeline, shaping client solutions, and closing high-value engagements. The ideal candidate has experience selling professional services and is comfortable operating in a scale‑up environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the sales strategy for consultancy and managed services.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline across target sectors.
- Lead client discovery, shape solution approaches, and develop proposals/SOWs.
- Own end‑to‑end sales cycles, including pricing, negotiation, and deal closure.
- Work with delivery teams to align service offerings with client needs.
- Build strategic partnerships and identify new market opportunities.
- Report revenue performance, forecasting, and pipeline insights to leadership.
Skills & Experience
- Proven track record selling consultancy, advisory, or managed services in AI, data, digital, or technology.
- Strong consultative selling skills with the ability to understand business challenges.
- Ability to build sales processes, methods, and KPIs from scratch.
- Excellent communication, proposal writing, and negotiation abilities.
- Entrepreneurial mindset suited to a growing, fast‑moving organisation.
Location
This role can be based anywhere in the UK but with a preference for Edinburgh, Manchester or London given the concentration of clients that Plan b AI have in these locations. The successful candidate will likely spend 3 days per week visiting clients across the UK.
