We are looking for an Engineering Technician for our night shift team at the Harlesden site to provide full Technical Engineering support under the Area Engineering Manager and work alongside the production team.
Responsibilities
- Provide effective maintenance to various equipment aiming for zero breakdowns for assets maintained, in a safe factory environment at an improved ongoing cost.
- Take active part in factory CBM development.
- Lead role in autonomous maintenance: train, assess competencies, mentor and support ATMs, Apprentices and Team Members with development of engineering skills.
- As an engineering specialist input into team action plans & continuous improvement activities.
- Accountability for the mechanical and electrical integrity of equipment by carrying out the following:
- Providing effective planned maintenance services.
- Reviewing maintenance plans and highlighting improvements on reliability, task lists, working methods, frequencies of PMs and equipment obsolescence.
- Completing stores requisitions for parts and contract services (on the SAP system or equivalent), including expediting deliveries with suppliers.
- Continually supervising plant conditions and reporting defects.
- Managing external contractors (PTW system, RAMS, compliance and safety checks).
- Deliver a consistent and improving plant reliability through effective management and monitoring of downtime, PPM conformance, engineering planning, use of SAP PM and elements of the engineering budget.
- Be a role model as the team champion of good engineering standards.
- Carry out safety checks on equipment in line with legislation and standard methodology.
- Manage engineering duties and tasks across the factory as deemed vital and suitable to reduce idle time.
- Consider and apply sustainability, waste minimisation and energy consumption where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Multiskilled role requiring knowledge of both electrical and mechanical disciplines.
- Experience within an FMCG manufacturing environment is preferred, but engineers from other sectors may also be considered.
- Experience with generic engineering equipment and the ability to clearly understand manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, symbols and notation.
- Proactive, solution‑focused and able to embed continuous improvement activities across the site.
- Formal engineering qualification to at least City & Guilds level or NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a mechanical and/or electrical subject area plus practical working experience.
- Excellent teamwork and autonomous working skills with a confident communication style to empower and mentor colleagues.
