What will this role achieve?
The role plays a vital part of our fast-paced manufacturing operations team in Manchester! The Shift Engineering Technician will be a dynamic, motivated and ambitious team player with a background in delivering change, driving performance, improvement and developing new and improved maintenance strategies.
Engineering Technicians provide engineering resource in carrying out planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, refurbishment, installation, improvements and modifications or upgrade to plant and services to maximise plant performance and maintain equipment to the required standard.
You will carry out all engineering worktohighEngineering, Quality, Safety and Hygiene standards and will support the engineering function in moving to World Class standard in maintenance standards. You will also provide full Technical Engineering support to production function under the leadership of the Area Engineering Managers and by working as part of a multi-functional team. You will also understand and contribute to achieving the goals of the Factory by efficiently carrying out any assigned Engineering task.
What will be your key deliverables?
- To provide full Technical engineering support to production under the leadership of theArea Engineering Manager
- Specialist knowledge ofbiscuits and cakemanufacturing equipment and associated bespoke control systems
- Maintain high standards of Hygiene and Housekeeping
- Decide on best course of action for major breakdowns in conjunction with team managers and AEMs
- Plan own time to achieve priority actions
- Implementation of continuous improvement programs using Speedy Kaizen / MBR etc
- Deliver a consistent and improving plant reliability through the effective management and monitoring of downtime, PPM conformance, engineering planning, use of SAP PM and elements of the engineering budget
- Liaise with 3rd party contractors when required, ensure the PermitToWork (PTW) system is controlled in an effective and safe manner
Bring your experience
- This role is a multiskilled role & will require knowledge of mechanical engineering disciplines. There will also be a small requirement for electrical experience. It will also require an individual who can operate in various situations and environments. You will ideally have gained experience within an FMCG manufacturing environment; however, we are open to speaking to engineers from other sectors for this role.
- Acting efficiently under pressure in a fast paced and dynamic environment and make timely decisions is important. You will be proactive, and solution focussed with an aim to embed continuous improvement activities across the site.
- You will need a proven engineering background through formal engineering qualification to at the least City & Guilds level, NVQ level 3 or equivalent in a mechanical and/or electrical subject area, and practical working experience. You will be excellent at working within a team and autonomously when required, with a confident communication style to empower and mentor colleagues to develop their engineering skills.
Additional crucial criteria for candidates:
- SAP PM experience
Shift pattern: 4 on 4 off , 2 x days and 2 x nights, 12 hour shifts, 7am7pm and then 7pm 7am. This does include weekend working as per the shift pattern
