The role is responsible for preparing quotes and estimates across a range of enquiries including roof condition surveys, leak investigations, roof repairs, waterproofing, roof refurbishments, and external building maintenance, as well as supporting tender submissions. The position also supports key clients and opportunities with proactive technical guidance to strengthen estimating proposals. Collaboration across internal teams is essential to ensure accurate pricing on specialist and integrated projects involving facades and specialist access. The role includes carrying out onsite technical surveys, reviewing drawings and reports, and developing specifications and scope proposals. Strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors are important to support accurate pricing and ongoing development.

Main Duties

  • Manage the estimating process from enquiry through to submission, ensuring deadlines and client requirements are met.
  • Review enquiries, drawings, specifications, and survey data to assess scope, risks, and commercial opportunities.
  • Carry out detailed roof surveys across flat, felt, single-ply, pitched roof systems, and associated works.
  • Prepare accurate and commercially sound estimates including labour, materials, plant, and subcontractor costs.
  • Develop scopes of work, specifications, and proposal documents aligned to client requirements.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative solutions.
  • Obtain quotations and technical input from suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
  • Analyse supply chain pricing to ensure competitiveness and margin optimisation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support complex or integrated projects.
  • Support tender submissions including pricing documents, clarifications, and technical information.
  • Identify and communicate risks, exclusions, assumptions, and qualifications within submissions.
  • Track estimating pipelines and prioritise opportunities to maximise conversion.
  • Maintain accurate records using internal systems and CRM platforms.
  • Monitor win rates, margins, and pipeline performance.
  • Support commercial review meetings with reporting and forecasting.
  • Provide technical advice and budget guidance to clients during pre-construction phases.
  • Attend client meetings, site visits, and presentations.
  • Support post-tender negotiations and project handovers.
  • Source materials and specialist requirements for secured projects.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and identify repeat business opportunities.
  • Stay informed on market trends, material pricing, and industry developments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and commercial performance.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Support development of estimating templates, pricing tools, and technical processes.
  • Maintain internal cost databases and historic project benchmarks.
  • Provide technical input into bids, methodologies, and programme planning.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers regarding technical specifications and compliance.
  • Attend project reviews and lessons learned sessions.
  • Assist with feasibility studies and budget estimates.
  • Ensure estimates comply with regulations, standards, and health & safety requirements.
  • Support technical query resolution during tender and pre-construction stages.
  • Assist with mentoring and development of junior team members.

Commercial Responsibilities

  • Support bid strategy, pricing approach, and margin optimisation.
  • Review contract documentation including JCT and NEC contracts to identify commercial risks.
  • Work with commercial teams to align estimating outputs with financial requirements.
  • Support procurement strategies and supply chain engagement.
  • Assist forecasting, reporting, and commercial reviews using pipeline data.
  • Support project cashflow planning during tender stages.
  • Participate in post-tender negotiations and client feedback reviews.
  • Support marketing and bid teams with commercial input where required.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships to encourage repeat business and long-term growth.

Training & Development

A two-year commercial and technical development plan will be provided following successful completion of six months' service.
