CNC Setter / Operator - Milling

Placr Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced CNC Setter / Operator (Miller) to join an established engineering and manufacturing business based in Lower Dicker, East Sussex.

This is a hands-on machining role for an experienced CNC Miller who is confident setting and operating CNC machinery, working from engineering drawings and producing high-quality precision components.

The Role

As a CNC Setter / Operator, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC milling machines, ensuring components are manufactured accurately, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting and operating CNC milling machines.
  • Setting and running both proven and unproven programs.
  • Adjusting work and tool coordinates and correcting machining errors where required.
  • Setting tooling and producing accurate first-off components.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Checking components to ensure they meet required specifications and quality standards.
  • Understanding how different tools and materials behave during the machining process.
  • Identifying potential machining problems before they arise.
  • Moving between machines when required.
  • Carrying out basic preventative maintenance on machinery.
  • Working to production deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.

The original specification requires candidates to understand ISO and conversational machine programs and lists FANUC, Heidenhain and Siemens controls.

About You

We'd particularly like to hear from you if you have:

  • Previous experience setting and operating CNC milling machines.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining processes.
  • The ability to read and understand engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience reading and understanding ISO and conversational CNC programs.
  • Experience using controls such as FANUC, Heidenhain and/or Siemens.
  • A good understanding of tooling, materials and machining processes.
  • The ability to troubleshoot machining issues and make appropriate adjustments.
  • A quality-focused approach with excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a manufacturing team.

Experience machining chambers and fabricated components would be particularly advantageous.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would also be beneficial:

  • Offline CNC programming.
  • AlphaCAM - although training can be provided.
  • Electronic inspection using a Faro Arm.
  • Manual turning.
  • CNC turning.
  • An engineering or manufacturing qualification.
