Overview
This apprenticeship is part of Citizen Housing recruitment. Citizen Housing Group is a large, non-profit social housing provider in the UK's West Midlands, managing around 30,000 affordable homes, focused on providing a "foundation for life" with strong governance and services like financial help, community funding, and support for tenants, operating under the Regulator of Social Housing's highest ratings.
Location
You will be based at either St James Lane, Coventry (CV3 3FX) or Elmdon Trading Estate, Marston Green, Birmingham (B37 7HQ). Both will relocate to Solihull Parkway, Birmingham Business Park (B37 7YN) in Summer 2026.
About the Apprenticeship
This two-year apprenticeship leads to a Level 2 City & Guilds qualification in Carpentry. You will develop practical skills, technical knowledge, and the behaviours needed to succeed, and you must complete all required assessments to achieve the qualification.
Training
You will spend up to four working days per month at our PfP Thrive training academy at 1 Centro Place, Derby (DE24 8RF). This modern facility, supported by experienced instructors, will provide hands-on learning. You will also attend college at the same location to meet all academic requirements.
Role Expectations
You are expected to work efficiently, communicate promptly with your manager, maintain a professional appearance, and look after any allocated vehicles or equipment. You must follow health and safety guidance, respect tenants' homes, and leave work areas clean. You will attend meetings with your mentor or manager, contribute to team discussions, and support community-focused activities. Training may occasionally take place outside normal working hours.
Assessment Centre
If shortlisted, you will be invited to an assessment centre with Citizen Housing on 16 February. There are two roles available.
Essential Criteria
- Interest in Carpentry with exposure in either a relevant college course or DIY at home
- You will need to be in a reasonable commuting distance to Coventry or Birmingham.
More About You
You will be dedicated to completing the Carpentry Apprentice and attending the block release at PfP Thrive based at 1 Centro Place, Derby DE24 8RF. You will need to consider how to get to and from this location (travel expenses will be reimbursed). You should be able to follow instructions, manage your time well, and be motivated to work with a strong sense of responsibility. Basic IT and keyboard skills are important, as is a commitment to learning and delivering excellent customer service. You're expected to be quick to pick up new skills and maintain a smart, presentable appearance. Ideally, you'll also have GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above in maths and English.
