Are you a Quantity Surveyor looking for your next step in residential housebuilding, with the opportunity to develop towards a Senior Quantity Surveyor role? At Places for People, we don't just procure homes. We design, build and deliver them ourselves, creating thriving communities across the UK. This is your chance to join our Developments team and play an important role in delivering high-quality residential projects across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
As the UK's leading social enterprise, we combine commercial expertise with a commitment to social value. Through our end-to-end Developments business, we deliver homes that balance economic, social and environmental outcomes, making a real difference. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who wants to continue developing their commercial experience and build a clear pathway towards becoming a Senior Quantity Surveyor.
You'll gain exposure across the full project lifecycle, take on increasing responsibility and work alongside an experienced commercial team who can support your development. The role will be based from our King's Cross office in London for two days per week, alongside travel to our development sites across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
More about your role
As a Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a key role in the commercial management of our residential development sites, supporting projects from initial budgets through to final accounts. You'll be involved across the full commercial lifecycle, including tendering, subcontractor appointments, monthly valuations, cost reporting and financial updates, while working closely with our Technical, Construction and wider project teams to maintain strong cost control and support the successful delivery of our developments. You'll also build strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, helping us achieve best value and maintain effective supply chain performance throughout the build process.
As you develop within the role, there will be opportunities to take on greater ownership and responsibility, giving you the experience and exposure to progress towards a Senior Quantity Surveyor position.
More about you
You'll have hands-on Quantity Surveying experience within the construction industry, with experience working for a housebuilder or main contractor essential. You'll bring experience across areas such as:
- Cost control and commercial management
- Tendering and subcontractor packages
- Valuations, reporting and cost forecasting
- Residential construction and build programmes
- Working collaboratively with site, technical and commercial teams
An understanding of infrastructure and groundworks would be beneficial, as would exposure to early-stage cost planning and setting budgets for new schemes. You'll be comfortable managing competing priorities and working as part of a close-knit commercial team. Strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills will be important, particularly when working with subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders. An MRICS qualification or progress towards it would be advantageous, but isn't essential.
Just as important as your technical experience is your attitude and approach. We're looking for someone who is organised, collaborative and keen to learn, with the ambition to continue developing their commercial capability and ultimately progress into a Senior Quantity Surveyor role.
