About the Role
Our client, a dynamic producer of specialty chemicals, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Engineer for their facility in Randburg, Gauteng. This role involves a hybrid work arrangement, requiring regular on-site engagement with operations and R&D teams, complemented by remote flexibility for planning and analysis. You will be instrumental in optimizing existing chemical processes, developing new manufacturing methods, and ensuring the efficient, safe, and sustainable production of high-value chemical products. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles, advanced process control, and troubleshooting complex manufacturing challenges. We are looking for a proactive and innovative engineer who can drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the technical advancement of our client's product lines. Your expertise will be crucial in enhancing yield, reducing costs, and maintaining product quality within their Randburg operations. Key Responsibilities
- Lead process optimization projects to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
- Develop and implement new process technologies and manufacturing procedures.
- Analyze plant data to identify trends, troubleshoot operational issues, and recommend improvements.
- Design and execute pilot plant trials and scale-up activities for new products.
- Ensure processes comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- Prepare process documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, and operating manuals.
- Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and production teams to ensure successful technology transfer and implementation.
- Evaluate and recommend process equipment upgrades and modifications.
- Provide technical support to the production team, resolving complex process challenges.
- Mentor junior engineers and share technical expertise.
Requirements
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in process engineering within the chemical industry, preferably specialty chemicals.
- Proven track record in process optimization, troubleshooting, and scale-up.
- Strong knowledge of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separation processes.
- Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing site and remote duties.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE).
- Registered Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) is highly desirable.
