About the Role
Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Mining Project Manager to oversee significant capital projects within their mining operations near Randburg, Gauteng. This role is pivotal in ensuring the successful execution of projects from conception through to completion, managing scope, budget, schedule, and quality. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, coordinate with various stakeholders, and mitigate project risks to deliver exceptional results. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of major mining projects, ensuring adherence to project objectives, timelines, and budgets.
- Develop detailed project plans, including scope definition, resource allocation, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Manage project execution, coordinating multidisciplinary teams of engineers, contractors, and suppliers.
- Monitor project progress, identify deviations from the plan, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Manage project contracts and procurements effectively.
- Conduct regular project reviews and provide comprehensive status reports to senior management.
- Identify and manage project risks and issues, developing mitigation strategies.
- Foster strong relationships with all project stakeholders, including internal departments, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement and best practice implementation within project management.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- A Master's degree in Project Management or an MBA is a strong advantage.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in project management within the mining and minerals processing industry, with a proven track record of managing large-scale capital projects.
- Demonstrated expertise in project management methodologies (e.g., PMI, Prince2) and proficiency with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
- Strong understanding of mining operations, engineering principles, and construction processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and drive consensus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on risk management and decision-making.
- Professional Project Management certification (e.g., PMP) is highly desirable.
