Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Design Engineer with a specialization in renewable energy systems to join their expanding team in Randburg . This role is pivotal in developing innovative and efficient electrical designs for solar, wind, and energy storage projects. You will be responsible for leading design efforts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications, and collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design of renewable energy projects, including site layouts, single-line diagrams, and wiring schematics.
- Specify electrical components such as inverters , transformers, switchgear, and cabling for solar and wind installations.
- Perform electrical calculations, including load flow, short circuit analysis, and grounding studies.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant national and international electrical codes and standards (e.g., NRS, IEC).
- Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and construction teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Review and approve designs prepared by junior engineers and external consultants.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical design, with at least 5 years focused on renewable energy projects (solar, wind, storage).
- Proficiency in electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, or PSS/E.
- Strong understanding of grid interconnection requirements and protection schemes.
- Experience with energy storage system design is highly desirable.
- Excellent technical communication skills and the ability to manage multiple design tasks effectively.
