About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated and vigilant Safety Officer to join their mining operations based in Randburg . This role is paramount in ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel, actively promoting a strong safety culture throughout the mine. You will be responsible for implementing and enforcing health and safety policies, conducting regular inspections, identifying potential hazards, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation in the Gauteng mining sector. The ideal candidate is proactive, possesses excellent communication skills, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of occupational health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety management systems.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify and mitigate safety risks and hazards.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
- Deliver safety training programs to employees at all levels of the organization.
- Ensure compliance with all South African occupational health and safety legislation and mining regulations.
- Promote a positive safety culture and encourage employee participation in safety initiatives.
Requirements
- National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Safety Officer, preferably within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
- Knowledge of relevant safety legislation (e.g., Mine Health and Safety Act).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and develop practical safety solutions.
- First Aid certification is advantageous.
