About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Optical Network Technician to join their team in Randburg. This role is vital for the deployment, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks, ensuring high-speed data transmission for our customers. You will be responsible for everything from splicing fiber to testing network integrity, playing a key part in the physical infrastructure that powers modern communication. This position offers hands‑on experience with cutting‑edge technology in the dynamic telecoms sector, working within the bustling economic hub of Gauteng, specifically in Randburg.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and splice fiber optic cables in various environments, including underground, aerial, and indoor installations.
- Perform testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks using specialized equipment (e.g., OTDR, light meters).
- Diagnose and repair faults in the fiber optic network infrastructure, ensuring minimal service disruption.
- Read and interpret fiber optic network designs, schematics, and blueprints.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on fiber optic equipment and infrastructure.
- Document all installation, testing, and repair activities accurately.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certification in fiber optics or telecommunications is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with fiber optic networks.
- Proficiency in fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing techniques.
- Experience with optical testing equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and VFLs.
- Knowledge of fiber optic cable types, connectors, and industry standards.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adhere to safety protocols.
