About the Role
Our client, a prominent energy trading firm, is seeking a highly analytical and dynamic Energy Trader to join their Commodities Desk in Randburg, Gauteng. This hybrid role involves a combination of in-office trading floor activities and remote analysis, requiring a keen understanding of energy markets, supply and demand dynamics, and geopolitical factors. You will be responsible for executing trading strategies across various energy commodities, managing risk, and identifying profitable opportunities in volatile markets. Key Responsibilities
- Execute trading strategies for energy commodities (e.g., crude oil, natural gas, power, coal) in spot and derivative markets.
- Monitor market developments, news, and economic indicators affecting energy prices.
- Analyze supply and demand fundamentals, weather patterns, and geopolitical events.
- Manage trading positions and control risk exposure within defined parameters.
- Identify and capitalize on arbitrage and trading opportunities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, counterparties, and market participants.
- Collaborate with risk management and quantitative analysis teams.
- Provide market insights and commentary to internal stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all trading regulations and company policies.
- Contribute to the development of new trading strategies and methodologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in energy trading or commodity trading.
- Proven track record of successful trading performance and risk management.
- In-depth knowledge of energy markets, including price drivers and trading instruments.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with proficiency in statistical analysis and modeling.
- Experience with trading platforms and financial market data providers.
- Excellent decision-making skills under pressure.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in both an office environment and remotely.
- Must be based in or willing to commute to Randburg, Gauteng.
