About the Role
Our client, a leading developer and contractor specializing in commercial properties, is seeking a highly experienced and driven Commercial Construction Manager to lead projects in the vibrant Randburg area and surrounding Gauteng regions. This role is critical for overseeing the successful execution of commercial construction projects from inception through to completion. You will be responsible for managing budgets, schedules, site operations, and stakeholder relationships to ensure projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and profitability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commercial acumen, extensive knowledge of commercial building techniques, and exceptional leadership skills. You will manage a team of site staff, subcontractors, and coordinate closely with clients, architects, and engineers. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all phases of commercial construction projects, from pre-construction planning to project closeout.
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring cost-effective execution and profitability.
- Create and maintain detailed project schedules, monitoring progress and implementing adjustments as needed.
- Oversee site operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and quality standards.
- Select, negotiate with, and manage subcontractors and suppliers effectively.
- Act as the primary liaison between the client, design team, and construction team.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues proactively.
- Ensure all project documentation, including permits, reports, and change orders, is accurately maintained.
- Conduct regular site inspections and progress meetings.
- Foster a collaborative and safety-conscious work environment.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in managing commercial construction projects.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex commercial projects on time and within budget.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, and technologies.
- Strong understanding of contract management, negotiation, and financial oversight.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project) and relevant estimating tools.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
