About the Role
Our client, a leading upstream oil and gas operator, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Petrophysicist to join their technical team based in East London, Eastern Cape. This role is pivotal in characterizing reservoir properties from well log data, contributing essential insights for exploration, development, and production optimization. You will be responsible for performing advanced log analysis, integrating multiple data types, and building robust petrophysical models to quantify reservoir potential, understand fluid content, and assess rock properties. The Senior Petrophysicist will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary geoscience and engineering team, providing expert advice on reservoir quality and uncertainty. This position requires a strong command of petrophysical principles, log interpretation software, and a proven ability to deliver accurate and reliable reservoir characterizations. The role involves a hybrid work model, combining essential on-site presence in East London with remote work flexibility. Join a company committed to technical excellence and leveraging data-driven decisions in reservoir management.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform detailed analysis of various well logging data (e.g., resistivity, porosity, gamma-ray, NMR, sonic) to determine reservoir properties.
- Develop and calibrate petrophysical models using core data, log responses, and geological information.
- Quantify reservoir parameters such as porosity, permeability, saturation, and lithology.
- Identify and evaluate reservoir rock types, depositional environments, and diagenetic alterations.
- Conduct formation evaluation studies for exploration, appraisal, and development wells.
- Integrate petrophysical results with seismic, geological, and engineering data to build comprehensive reservoir models.
- Assess uncertainty in reservoir parameters and communicate key risks to the team.
- Collaborate closely with geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineers to ensure integrated subsurface interpretation.
- Utilize advanced petrophysical software (e.g., Techlog, Petrel, Interactive Petrophysics).
- Prepare high-quality petrophysical reports, cross-sections, and presentations.
- Mentor junior petrophysicists and contribute to best practice development.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Geosciences, Physics, or a related discipline with a specialization in Petrophysics.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in petrophysical analysis within the oil and gas industry.
- Expertise in advanced well log analysis techniques and interpretation software.
- Strong understanding of core analysis methods, geological concepts, and reservoir engineering principles.
- Proven ability to perform independent, high-quality petrophysical evaluations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data integration skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment.
- Experience working in the Eastern Cape region, particularly East London, or a willingness to relocate.
- Familiarity with data management and quality control procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment.
Benefits
- Competitive annual salary and performance bonus structure.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and optical coverage.
- Retirement savings plan with employer contributions.
- Generous paid vacation and company holidays.
- Budget for professional development, courses, and industry conferences.
- Opportunity to work on diverse geological plays and reservoir types.
- Collaborative and intellectually stimulating team environment.
- Modern office facilities in East London.
