About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Operations Superintendent to provide oversight and drive operational strategy for their mining ventures. This leadership position focuses on optimizing overall mining operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and profitability. While the role is based out of East London , it offers a hybrid work model, allowing for significant remote management, strategic planning, and performance analysis, complemented by essential on-site visits to operational sites for direct supervision, team engagement, and problem-solving. You will be instrumental in setting operational targets, implementing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the organization. This is a pivotal role for driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic operational plans to achieve production, cost, and safety targets.
- Provide leadership and guidance to site-based operations managers and supervisors.
- Oversee the effective management of resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Ensure adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards across all operations.
- Analyze operational performance data, identify trends, and implement corrective actions to drive efficiency.
- Foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and high performance within the operations teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mining operations management, with proven leadership capabilities.
- Strong understanding of open-pit and/or underground mining methods and associated challenges.
- Excellent strategic planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to manage remote teams and conduct effective on-site oversight.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills.
