Our client, a prominent regional electricity distribution utility, is seeking a Senior Electrical Distribution Engineer to join their expanding team in East London. This role is essential for planning, designing, and managing the development of the electrical distribution network, ensuring a reliable and efficient power supply to customers in the Border Kei region. You will be involved in substation upgrades, network extensions, load analysis, and the integration of new technologies to improve grid performance and resilience. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in distribution network engineering, a thorough understanding of relevant regulations, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Your expertise will be critical to the ongoing development and maintenance of the power infrastructure serving East London.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and supervise the implementation of electrical distribution projects, including overhead lines and underground cable networks.
- Conduct load flow, fault level, and power quality studies for the distribution network.
- Specify and manage the procurement of distribution equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and protective devices.
- Develop and optimize protection schemes for medium and low-voltage distribution systems.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical standards, safety regulations, and utility policies.
- Collaborate with project managers, field crews, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient project execution.
- Investigate and resolve operational issues and network faults.
- Contribute to long-term network planning and asset management strategies.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers in the East London office.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on Power Systems.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical power distribution engineering.
- Strong knowledge of distribution network design, operation, and maintenance principles.
- Experience with distribution management systems (DMS) and SCADA applications is a plus.
- Familiarity with South African electricity distribution codes and standards.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software for network analysis.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, essential for working within the East London operational environment.
- Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) registration is highly desirable.
