About the Role
Our client, a leading engineering consultancy, is seeking a seasoned Senior Civil Engineer with specific expertise in coastal infrastructure to join their team in East London, Eastern Cape . This critical role involves the planning, design, and management of projects related to port facilities, coastal defenses, and marine structures. You will play a key role in ensuring the resilience and functionality of vital coastal infrastructure in response to environmental challenges. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in hydraulics, maritime engineering, and the environmental considerations specific to coastal zones. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and analysis of coastal protection structures, including seawalls, breakwaters, and revetments.
- Undertake feasibility studies and detailed design for port infrastructure, such as jetties, quays, and dredging operations.
- Perform hydraulic and hydrodynamic modeling for coastal processes and wave action.
- Develop comprehensive engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for marine and coastal projects.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant national and international standards for coastal and maritime engineering.
- Collaborate with environmental scientists, geologists, and other specialists to address environmental impacts.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
- Conduct site investigations and supervise construction activities for coastal projects.
- Liaise with clients, government agencies, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Coastal or Maritime Engineering.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the design and management of coastal infrastructure projects.
- Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr. Eng. is required.
- Proficiency in specialized software for coastal modeling (e.g., Delft3D, Mike 21) and structural analysis.
- Strong understanding of wave mechanics, sediment transport, and coastal geomorphology.
- Experience with South African environmental regulations and coastal management policies.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing office and remote responsibilities in East London, Eastern Cape.
- Willingness to travel to project sites, which may be remote or offshore.
