About the Role
Our client, a prominent player in the aviation sector based in East London , is seeking an experienced Senior Aviation Safety Manager to lead and enhance their safety management initiatives. This high-level position is responsible for the strategic direction, implementation, and oversight of the organization's Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring the highest standards of safety across all operations. You will play a vital role in fostering a robust safety culture, analyzing safety data, managing risks, and ensuring full compliance with aviation safety regulations. This role requires strong leadership, analytical capabilities, and a deep commitment to aviation safety excellence. The position operates under a hybrid model, allowing for a blend of on-site strategic engagement and remote operational management within Eastern Cape .
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Safety Management System (SMS) aligned with ICAO standards and national regulations. Lead safety risk assessments, hazard identification, and the development of mitigation strategies. Oversee the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near-misses, ensuring thorough root cause analysis and effective corrective actions. Promote a proactive safety culture through training, communication, and engagement with all levels of staff. Monitor safety performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), reporting on trends and areas for improvement to senior management. Liaise with aviation regulatory authorities (e.g., SACAA) on all safety-related matters. Manage the safety audit program, ensuring regular internal and external audits are conducted effectively. Stay abreast of evolving safety regulations, best practices, and emerging threats in the aviation industry.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Safety Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. A Master's degree is preferred. A minimum of 8 years of experience in aviation safety management or a closely related field, with proven leadership experience. In-depth knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) principles, frameworks, and implementation. Strong understanding of aviation regulations and safety standards. Demonstrated experience in risk management, incident investigation, and safety auditing. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making. Ability to effectively manage projects and drive change within a complex organizational structure. Proficiency in safety management software and data analysis tools is advantageous.
