About the Role
Our client, a prominent architectural firm with a strong presence in the Eastern Cape , is seeking a Senior Architectural Technologist for a fully remote position. This role is crucial for developing detailed technical designs for a range of residential projects, from individual homes to multi-unit complexes. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in translating architectural concepts into buildable, compliant, and efficient construction documentation. As a remote-first role, strong communication, self-discipline, and proficiency in digital collaboration tools are paramount. Key Responsibilities
Lead the development of detailed technical drawings, construction documentation, and specifications for residential projects. Ensure all designs comply with the National Building Regulations (NBR), SANS codes, and other relevant legislation. Coordinate technical designs with architects, engineers (structural, mechanical, electrical), and other project consultants. Conduct site visits and assessments as required to inform technical designs and resolve construction issues. Oversee the preparation of tender documentation and assist in contractor engagement processes. Provide expert technical support and problem-solving during the construction phase. Research and recommend appropriate building materials, systems, and technologies for residential construction. Maintain high standards of technical accuracy, quality, and consistency in all project documentation. Mentor and guide junior architectural technologists and design staff. Stay updated with advancements in construction technology, materials, and digital design tools.
Requirements
National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Architectural Technology or a related field. Professional registration with SACAP as an Architectural Technologist is mandatory. Minimum of 7 years of experience as an Architectural Technologist, with a strong focus on residential developments. Expert proficiency in BIM software, particularly Revit, is essential for this role. In-depth knowledge of the National Building Regulations (SANS 10400) and South African construction standards. Proven experience in producing comprehensive construction documentation packages. Excellent understanding of construction methodologies, materials, and building science. Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently in a remote setting, utilizing digital communication and collaboration tools. Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail. Leadership qualities and experience in mentoring junior team members.
