About the Role
Our client, a well-respected architectural firm specializing in bespoke residential design, is seeking a talented and client-focused Residential Design Architect. Based in the coastal city of East London, Eastern Cape , this role involves leading the design of high-end homes, from initial client consultations through to detailed construction documentation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong portfolio of residential projects, excellent communication skills, and a passion for creating beautiful, functional, and sustainable living spaces. Key Responsibilities
Lead the design process for residential projects, engaging with clients to define their needs and aspirations. Develop innovative and aesthetically pleasing design concepts for individual homes, including floor plans, elevations, and interior layouts. Produce detailed architectural drawings, specifications, and material schedules. Coordinate with engineers (structural, mechanical, electrical) and other consultants to ensure integrated design solutions. Oversee the preparation of planning applications and ensure compliance with local building regulations and zoning ordinances. Conduct site analysis and feasibility studies for new residential projects. Manage project timelines and budgets effectively, ensuring successful project delivery. Supervise site visits during construction to ensure adherence to design intent and quality standards. Stay abreast of current trends in residential design, materials, and construction technologies. Maintain strong client relationships, ensuring clear communication and satisfaction throughout the design and construction phases.
Requirements
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture. Professional registration with SACAP or eligibility for registration is required. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with a significant focus on high-quality residential design. A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in bespoke residential architecture. Proficiency in architectural design software such as Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and rendering applications. Excellent understanding of residential building codes, construction methods, and material science. Exceptional design sensibility, creativity, and attention to detail. Strong client-facing and communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts effectively. Proven ability to manage projects independently and work collaboratively within a team. Knowledge of sustainable design principles and energy-efficient building practices is a plus.
