About the Role
Our client, a rapidly expanding technology firm with a global reach, is seeking a talented and adaptable Remote In-House Counsel specializing in general commercial law. This fully remote position offers an exceptional opportunity to work from anywhere in South Africa while playing a critical role in advising the business on a broad spectrum of legal matters. You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements, managing compliance, and providing strategic legal support to various departments. The ideal candidate will be proactive, possess strong business acumen, and thrive in a fast-paced, digitally connected environment. This role is pivotal in ensuring our client's continued growth and legal integrity, regardless of geographical location.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including SaaS agreements, partnership agreements, and vendor contracts.
- Advise business teams on legal risks and compliance related to commercial transactions and operations.
- Develop and implement legal policies and procedures to support business objectives.
- Manage intellectual property matters, including trademark and copyright protection.
- Conduct legal research and provide timely and practical legal advice.
- Assist with corporate governance and compliance initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across different time zones.
- Support the legal team on various projects as needed.
Requirements
- Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 4 years of relevant legal experience.
- Strong background in commercial contract drafting, negotiation, and review.
- Experience with technology-related agreements (SaaS, licensing, IP) is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a remote setting.
- Proficiency in legal research databases and collaboration tools.
- Self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and possesses strong business judgement.
- A proactive approach to identifying and mitigating legal risks.
- Comfortable working in a fully remote, dynamic startup or tech environment.
