About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Legal Counsel with specialization in construction law to join their progressive legal team in East London. This role requires expert advice on a variety of construction and engineering projects, including drafting and negotiating FIDIC and local standard contracts, advising on dispute resolution, and ensuring project compliance. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to mitigate risks and achieve successful project outcomes. This is a prime opportunity for a construction law expert to make a significant impact within the Eastern Cape.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of construction and engineering projects.
- Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts (e.g., FIDIC, JBCC).
- Advise on tendering processes and project documentation.
- Manage and resolve construction-related disputes, including arbitration and litigation.
- Ensure compliance with building regulations, health and safety legislation.
- Assist in securing project financing and managing contractual relationships.
Requirements
- Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience focused on construction law and related contracts.
- Strong understanding of FIDIC, JBCC, and NEC contract forms.
- Experience in construction dispute resolution mechanisms.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and project management skills.
