About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Insurance Underwriter specializing in Commercial Lines to join their growing team, with the flexibility to work remotely. This role focuses on evaluating, selecting, and pricing commercial insurance risks to achieve desired profitability and growth targets. You will analyze business operations, financial statements, and risk exposures to determine appropriate coverage terms and conditions. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical capabilities, a thorough understanding of commercial insurance principles, and the ability to make informed underwriting decisions, contributing significantly to the company's success in underwriting complex business risks.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze applications for commercial insurance policies, assessing risks and exposures.
- Determine appropriate coverage levels, terms, conditions, and pricing for commercial risks.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents to facilitate business flow.
- Monitor underwriting performance and adherence to guidelines and company strategies.
- Provide guidance and support to junior underwriters and support staff.
- Collaborate with claims and actuarial teams to enhance risk assessment and pricing accuracy.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in underwriting, with a strong focus on commercial lines of business.
- Proficiency in risk assessment techniques and underwriting principles for commercial entities.
- Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities, effective in a remote setting.
- Knowledge of the insurance market dynamics in the Eastern Cape and broader South Africa.
