About the Role
Our client is looking for a dedicated Forestry Technician with expertise in silviculture to join their team near East London . This role is critical for managing forest resources, ensuring healthy forest growth, and implementing sustainable forestry practices. You will be involved in planting, maintaining, and monitoring forest stands, contributing to the long-term health and productivity of woodland areas. Working in diverse forest environments, you will apply your technical skills and knowledge to support conservation efforts and timber management objectives, playing a key part in the region's forestry sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and execution of forest planting and regeneration programs.
- Conduct forest inventory surveys, measuring tree growth and assessing forest health.
- Implement silvicultural treatments, such as thinning, pruning, and pest/disease control.
- Monitor forest sites for potential hazards, including fire risks and invasive species.
- Maintain forestry equipment and tools, ensuring safe and efficient operation.
Requirements
- Diploma or National Diploma in Forestry, Environmental Management, or a related field.
- Previous experience in forestry operations or field research.
- Knowledge of tree identification , forest ecology, and silvicultural principles.
- Proficiency in using GPS devices and forestry data collection tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in outdoor environments.
