About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Environmental Scientist to ensure regulatory compliance and promote sustainable practices at their mining operations near East London. This role is crucial for monitoring environmental impacts, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring adherence to all environmental legislation. You will work closely with operational teams, external consultants, and regulatory bodies to manage environmental aspects of mining activities. This hybrid position allows for remote management of documentation and analysis while requiring on-site presence for monitoring and inspections.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental impact assessments and monitor key environmental parameters (water quality, air quality, noise, biodiversity).
- Develop and implement environmental management plans and monitoring programs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws, regulations, and permits.
- Investigate and report on environmental incidents and non-compliance issues.
- Collaborate with operational staff to identify and implement environmental best practices and pollution prevention measures.
- Prepare environmental reports for internal management and regulatory agencies.
Requirements
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
- Strong understanding of environmental legislation and permitting processes.
- Experience with environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment.
