About the Role
Our client, a prominent engineering firm with a strong focus on coastal and marine infrastructure, is seeking a talented Civil Design Engineer to join their team in East London, Eastern Cape . This role involves the design and development of a variety of projects, including harbors, jetties, breakwaters, seawalls, and coastal protection structures. The successful candidate will apply advanced engineering principles to address the unique challenges of the marine environment, ensuring the durability, safety, and sustainability of coastal infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Design and analyze coastal and marine structures, including breakwaters, jetties, seawalls, and outfalls.
- Perform hydraulic and hydrodynamic modeling related to wave action, currents, and sedimentation.
- Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual design for new coastal projects.
- Prepare detailed design calculations, engineering drawings, and construction specifications.
- Liaise with clients, port authorities, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase of marine projects.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant international and national codes, standards, and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
- Assess and mitigate risks associated with the marine environment.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Coastal or Structural Engineering.
- Professional registration with ECSA as a Pr. Eng. or eligibility for registration is essential.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in the design of coastal and marine structures.
- Demonstrated experience in relevant hydraulic and hydrodynamic modeling software.
- Strong understanding of coastal processes, wave theory, and maritime engineering principles.
- Proficiency in CAD and structural analysis software.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment and manage project deliverables.
- Experience with environmental considerations in coastal development.
