We have a current opportunity for a Senior Risk Manager on an inside IR35 contract basis. The position will be based in London. For further information about this position, please apply.

About SZC Project Controls

SZC Project Controls will serve as a centre of excellence, managing and strategically using delivery performance management information. Our team will enable successful delivery of SZC Project through proactive Project Controls that drive forward-looking solutions to continuously improve performance.

Role Overview

The post holder will support the functional ownership for all PMO risk processes across SZC, alongside the Head of Risk. This entails supporting the deployment and continuous improvement of all PMO risk process elements, ensuring operations within SZC governance, organisation, and delivery models. They will ensure risk activities are carried out efficiently, in accordance with established calendars and deadlines, and will promote innovation supporting SZC's 'Digital by Default' initiative.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should have significant experience working in large-scale project environments, with knowledge of multiple risk management environments and effective risk management practices. Previous experience on major programmes will enable them to assure outputs produced by senior risk managers. They should have experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and with senior leadership to ensure effective risk management activities, demonstrating the ability to handle multiple risk activities, prioritise effectively, and deputise for the Head of Risk.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Support the Risk Functional Lead in developing, implementing, and maintaining Integrated Project Controls (Risk) processes.
  • Assist with tasks assigned by the Risk Functional Lead and deputise at key meetings such as Executive Risk Review meetings.
  • Help establish and maintain Project Controls arrangements, systems, tools, and work instructions for SZC.
  • Support planning and coordination of risk activities like EAC updates, ERR preparation, and QRAs.
  • Contribute to progress reporting, including risk dashboards, forecasts, and insights for improvement.
  • Ensure effective lines of defence assurance processes within the delivery programme.
  • Promote risk management excellence within the construction industry through knowledge sharing and sector presentations.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Strong leadership, motivational, delegation, and team management skills, capable of leading a small team.
  • Excellent engagement skills to work with diverse teams across the project lifecycle.
  • Ability to extract insights from risk and project controls processes and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Facilitation skills for complex workshops.
  • Technical expertise in delivering QRAs, enterprise risk management, and project controls.
  • Strong understanding of project and construction processes and mitigation strategies.

Desirable

  • Broader project management and controls experience.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant sector experience, including client, contractor, consultancy, or government roles.
  • Experience with major projects and corporate risk management.
  • Experience working with assurance teams and building confidence across risk professionals is a plus.
