As a Brokerage Clerk, you will be completing import entries and circulating documentation in a manner outlined in our SLA to ensure that the Metro Group meets its ever-expanding brokerage obligations. You will also be involved in an ongoing best practice support process to both internal and external clients. Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational responsibilities:
  • To liaise both internally and with external client base in relation to customs clearance issues specifically but not exclusively.
  • Relating to the generation of import operational files from scratch.
  • Relating to the generation of import customs entries for both EU and ROW consignments.
  • Direct engagement with customers in relation to applicable preferential duty rates and processes.
  • Maintain where required support for existing clients during transition or development of new business and/or offer support for new clients during transition.
  • Direct liaison and support for clients regarding issuance and distribution of import documentation.
  • Commercial responsibilities:
    • Deal with client enquiries in a timely manner and share with stakeholders.
    • Refer when recognised any issues or procedures likely to bring the company or their client into conflict, or to bring the client into conflict with HMRC.
    • Review and comment on import requests in relation to matters of compliance and legal requirements.
    • To always comply with company training procedures and maintain a clear understanding of financial obligations in terms of use of deferment and invoicing of same.
    • Liaise with internal operational import teams to ensure all entries submitted in line with on service SOP conditions and where appropriate ensure guidance given regarding import procedures.

    • Maintain own personal training to ensure technical knowledge remains current and valid.
    • Email queries to be answered same day as receipt; if further information is required a ‘holding message’ must be sent as acknowledgment.

    Key Experience & Skills:

    • Preferably degree level education or experience in a similar operating environment.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent planning and attention to detail.
    • May be required to work overtime, weekends and/or be flexible in start/finish times.
    • Ability to demonstrate a logical, structured, proactive, and objective approach.
    • Ability to analyse data and produce customs compliant documentation.
    • European language skills beneficial.
    • Adept with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word etc.).
    • Knowledge of CW1 for brokerage purposes would be beneficial.

    Our Brokerage Department is full time in the office and works on a three week rolling shift pattern of 7am-3:30pm / 8:30am-5pm / 10:30am-7pm.
