About The Role

Placement counsellors provide emotional and therapeutic support to children and young people aged 4-18 in Place2Be partner schools. As an organisation committed to the BACP ethical framework, counsellors are dedicated to improving mental health and well-being.

• Place2Be offers regular supervision, tailored training workshops, and a well-recognised clinical placement.
• We provide a comprehensive induction, with daily clinical supervision.
• You need to be available for at least one day per week to work therapeutically with up to 3 children, offering one-to-one counselling.
• Placements are during term time for one academic year, with opportunities to extend.
• Optional workshops are available for professional development.
• Sessions with children count as clinical hours towards accreditation, recognised by BACP and UKCP.
• Many of our staff started as placement counsellors, making it an excellent career stepping stone.
• Positions are available in primary and secondary schools nationwide.

Counting your hours

All clinical hours can contribute towards accreditation. Check with your course tutor if child hours are accepted for your course. If not, you may apply as a second placement.

About You

You will be a qualified Counsellor, Therapist, or Clinical Psychologist, or studying towards such qualifications, with:

• Diploma in Counselling (Level 4 or above), or a full academic year Certificate Course in Counselling.
• Degree, MSc, or MA in Counselling, Counselling Psychology, or Psychotherapy, with relevant experience if in your first year.
