A highly regarded UK-based interior architecture and placemaking practice is seeking a Managing Director to work alongside the founding partners in leading and developing the business. Based in Soho, the studio comprises approximately 70 interior architects, designers, and support staff, delivering high-profile international projects across a range of sectors.
This is a senior leadership role with broad responsibility for the commercial, operational, and financial performance of the practice. The Managing Director will oversee the day-to-day running of the studio, including financial management, fee forecasting, and operational strategy, while also playing a key role in shaping the culture and long-term direction of the business.
Working closely with the founders, the Managing Director will act as a trusted strategic partner, supporting growth, strengthening the studio’s international presence, and ensuring the practice continues to operate at the highest level creatively and commercially.
Key Responsibilities- Provide leadership and direction to a team of approximately 70 interior architects, designers, and support staff
- Oversee the operational and financial performance of the practice, including fee forecasting and monthly P&L management
- Work closely with the founding partners to shape business strategy, growth initiatives, and studio operations
- Represent the practice at a senior level in client relationships and external engagements
- Identify and implement improvements across operations, performance, and studio processes
- Support the continued development of a strong, collaborative studio culture
You are a commercially minded and people-focused leader with significant senior experience within an interior architecture, architecture, or design-led practice. You understand how creative studios operate and are adept at balancing design excellence with financial performance and operational efficiency.
You are confident operating in a client-facing capacity and comfortable representing a practice at senior level, bringing the presence and credibility required within the placemaking and built environment sectors. You may come from a background in architecture or interior architecture, or from a business leadership role within a design-focused studio environment.
