Purpose and Aim of the Role

The role requires an ambitious, confident individual, with a strong academic background to join the Private Client Tax Team. The successful candidate will be a member of the team, responsible for assisting the Directors and Partners in servicing clients and delivering services. They will take responsibility for their own work, and for managing and motivating trainee staff. They may have specialist skills but will primarily be responsible for assisting with the management of a condensed portfolio of clients in a variety of sectors in conjunction with more senior members of the Private Client Tax team. The successful candidate will review work with minimal Partner/Director input in respect of clients with straightforward personal Tax Returns. They should also have an understanding of their own experience and know when to seek additional support. They will also work on more complex clients alongside a Partner/Director.

Client Responsibilities

  • Supporting the partner and directors with Business Development activities, including attending new client meetings, and contributing to the regular articles that the team produces for external newsletters.
  • The delivery of advisory work on a wide range of tax planning issues, such as Trust & Estate planning, International aspects including pre-arrival and pre-departure planning, pension planning, profit extraction and issues for owner-managed businesses.
  • Reviewing clients’ Self-Assessment Tax Returns prepared by the staff, and sign-off of letters/computations where permission has been designated by a senior manager, director or partner.
  • Manage WIP and billing for own clients, ensuring commercial recoveries.
  • Handling client queries.
  • Review of online CGT Returns and advising clients thereon.
  • Responsibility for ensuring procedures are adhered to for clients on your allocation.

Special Work / Adhoc Assignments

Responsibility for some administrative requirements and projects required to ensure the smooth operation of the Private Client Tax team.

People Management

The post-holder will be jointly responsible for managing trainees, mentoring and providing feedback.

Qualifications

ACA/CA/CTA or equivalent.

Experience

  • Able to explain complex issues in a way non-PC experts will understand.
  • Up-to-date technical skills and experience, across a broad range of clients and areas of Private Client tax.
  • Ability to manage a client portfolio profitably.
  • Excellent written English.
  • Ability to support with tax advisory matters and report writing.
