Overview
The Technical and Compliance Department (TCD) ensures that the Firm\'s business is conducted in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, codes, and standards issued by regulators and standard setters. TCD supports the Firm\'s system of quality management (SOQM) through audit quality reviews on selected engagements, monitoring engagement performance, and developing and delivering audit quality guidance and training materials. As an Audit Quality Assistant Manager / Manager, you will support partners and staff to achieve audit quality and ensure compliance with auditing and accounting standards. You will apply your audit knowledge to answer audit-related queries, perform cold, in-flight and thematic reviews, and issue guidance and training on audit quality initiatives. You must be a strong team player, able to work effectively within TCD and across the Firm, and capable of liaising with senior partners, staff, the Firm\\\'s network and external regulatory bodies.
Responsibilities
- Perform audit quality reviews of selected audit engagements, including in-flight reviews, thematic reviews, follow-up of regulatory findings and cold file reviews.
- Prepare and submit reports on the findings from all audit quality reviews to the relevant compliance partners, the Professional Standards Committee (PSC), the Audit Quality Oversight Team (AQOT), and, where required, the wider Firm.
- Identify areas for improvement in the Firm\\\'s audit methodology and/or audit training based on audit quality review findings, and deliver those actions in conjunction with other TCD members.
- Participate in relevant audit quality projects and initiatives devised by the AQOT.
- Review existing working practices, suggest improvements, and deliver agreed monitoring and recommendations.
Audit Quality Liaison & Queries
- Support the development of audit quality sessions, guidance and materials for managers, RIs and engagement quality reviewers.
- Respond to queries and information requests from audit regulators, audit engagement teams and others related to audit quality matters.
- Ensure liaison and cooperation with divisional audit quality teams to address AQOT objectives and identify findings and trends.
- Provide support to the Technical and Compliance Department by answering audit-related queries and developing audit-related materials and training, including audit methodology.
- Review audit reports of public interest entities and other entities within the Firm\\\'s technical review requirements to confirm compliance with auditing standards, company legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Review proposed modified audit reports prior to issuance.
- Share best practices with audit teams to improve the overall audit quality initiative and reduce risk.
Monitoring & Remediation
- Undertake relevant audit quality monitoring activities related to quality risks and responses in the Firm\\\'s system of quality management, and report findings to the Technical and Compliance Partner responsible for monitoring and remediation.
- Involve in root cause analysis for deficiencies from reviews and regulatory findings, including documenting discussions, communicating outcomes, and performing monitoring to ensure remedial actions are implemented.
Qualifications
- Professional accountancy qualification (e.g., ICAEW, ACCA or equivalent) with at least 3 years post-qualification experience (Manager) or 1 year post-qualification experience (Assistant Manager).
- Strong working knowledge of UK auditing requirements including legislation (e.g., Companies Act 2006), auditing standards (ISAs UK), the FRC\\\'s Revised Ethical Standard, and UK GAAP and IFRS.
- Previous experience in audit practice and/or in a similar audit quality position; suitable for an auditor with strong technical aptitude seeking a move into audit quality.
- Ability to develop and deliver audit quality training initiatives and materials.
- Ability to handle complex, multi-faceted issues and reach clear evidence-based conclusions.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
