PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Real Estate team at Addleshaw Goddard is recognised as a market leader, and in the last two years over 800 funders, investors, developers and agents have relied on our help to deliver nearly 14,000 real estate projects. Following a busy and successful year, the team is looking to appoint a Managing Associate to sustain momentum and further accelerate our growth. In this role you will manage your own caseload while working closely with partners on major, high‑value transactions. If you have begun to develop a specialism within commercial property, we will support you in deepening your expertise and building your profile. You will also maintain a varied workload, ensuring breadth of experience and flexibility within the team. A key aspect of the role will be developing and supervising junior team members—mentoring and supporting their growth and helping shape the next generation of commercial property lawyers.
THE TEAM
The Real Estate Division is one of Addleshaw Goddard's largest, comprising a team of nearly 200. In our Manchester office, the Real Estate team currently includes seven partners and about 29 other fee earners. The team places a high emphasis on transactional expertise and a commercial, business‑oriented approach to a wide range of property matters. We advise some of the biggest clients on exciting schemes, such as Peel on the acquisition and redevelopment of Fiddler's Ferry power station, Bruntwood on its SciTech campuses in Manchester and Birmingham, and National Grid’s transition to Net Zero by 2050. We use the latest technology and our in‑house legal tech team to operate on platforms such as Orbital Witness and HighQ, encouraging the use of generative AI and innovative solutions.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS ROLE
The team provides expert advice on a wide range of landlord and tenant matters, property management, and sales and acquisitions for some of the firm's most significant clients. Our work spans high‑profile office, retail, leisure, development, and regeneration projects across the UK, offering exposure to many exciting and complex schemes. Management of large‑scale projects will involve roll‑outs of leases or easements, utilising the latest legal technology and working closely with our Paralegal division and junior team members. Working collaboratively as a cohesive team, you will help execute large‑scale, high‑value client matters to the highest standard. As a Managing Associate you will help the team develop and build relationships with new and existing clients through business development initiatives, shape and drive the development of the team, and have ample opportunity to take on additional responsibility and advance your career.
YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Be a UK qualified lawyer with five years PQE or more and experience within commercial property and real estate matters.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, resilience and ambition to find solutions to clients' legal challenges and requirements.
- Be a confident stakeholder manager, with evidence of engaging with internal and external stakeholders of all levels.
- Adopt a consultative and thorough approach to tasks.
- Maintain efficient diary and task management across a wide range of matters, ensuring accuracy and high levels of client service expected within a high‑performing team.
- Show enthusiasm for developing your legal skill set and continuous learning.
- Be inquisitive and curious, understanding clients, their drivers and what matters to them so that your advice has quality, imagination and impact.
