PK Education are currently recruiting dedicated and compassionate SEND Learning Support Assistants to work across a number of resourced provisions and mainstream schools in Wakefield and Pontefract. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate individual who thrives on supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), providing 1:1 and small‑group support within a well‑organised and nurturing school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and in‑class support for pupils with SEND
  • Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SEN staff to meet individual targets
  • Follow school policies and safeguarding procedures
  • Use a calm, resilient, and nurturing approach, particularly with pupils displaying challenging behaviour
  • Support small groups and carry out general teaching assistant duties when required
  • Assist with personal care, where necessary (desirable but not essential)

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working in primary or secondary school settings
  • Previous experience supporting children with SEND
  • Experience supporting children with limited communication or non‑verbal needs (highly advantageous)
  • Send‑related training or qualifications (beneficial but not essential)
  • Patient, dedicated, and resilient personality
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
