We are currently recruiting for a flexible and committed Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEMH secondary school in the DE11 area. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is adaptable, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs. This role includes both classroom support and some catering responsibilities, making it varied and rewarding.
As this is an SEMH setting, the successful candidate must be confident working with challenging behaviour and supporting pupils who may struggle to engage in education. Please note: Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to their own vehicle, as home visits may be required for students who are not attending school.
Working Hours:
- Monday – Wednesday: 8:10am – 3:50pm
- Thursday: 8:10am – 4:20pm
- Friday: 8:10am – 3:40pm
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils in lessons and small group interventions
- Providing 1:1 support where required
- Assisting with classroom preparation and resources
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs and behaviour regulation
- Carrying out basic catering duties when required
- Promoting engagement, safety, and positive behaviour
- Working closely with teaching staff and support teams
- Undertaking home visits where required to support non-attending pupils
Ideal Candidate:
- Experience working with children or young people (SEMH experience desirable)
- Calm, resilient, and patient approach
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with vulnerable learners
- Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
