School Kitchen Assistant – Term Time Looking for a role that fits around the school day? We’re looking for a reliable and hardworking School Kitchen Assistant to support a busy school catering team. You’ll help prepare and serve meals, keep the kitchen clean and organised, and make sure lunchtime runs smoothly for pupils and staff. You don’t need previous school experience to apply. If you have experience in catering, hospitality, kitchens or food service – or simply have the right attitude and are keen to learn – we’d be happy to hear from you. Your day-to-day role Helping with basic food preparation and getting meals ready for service. Serving meals to pupils and staff during lunchtime. Preparing counters, serving areas and dining spaces. Washing dishes, trays, utensils and kitchen equipment. Keeping kitchen surfaces and food preparation areas clean and hygienic. Helping to receive and store food deliveries correctly. Supporting stock rotation and general kitchen organisation. Working alongside cooks and other catering staff during busy services. Following food hygiene, health and safety, and safeguarding procedures. What we’re looking for You’ll be someone who is dependable, punctual and happy to get stuck in. You should be comfortable working in a busy environment, able to follow instructions and work well alongside other members of the kitchen team. Experience in catering, hospitality, food preparation, kitchen work or similar roles would be beneficial but isn’t essential. A Level 2 Food Hygiene/Food Safety certificate and an understanding of food allergens and dietary requirements would be an advantage. Working hours This is a term-time role, with hours depending on the requirements of the school. The position is practical and active, so you should be comfortable standing for extended periods and carrying out tasks including food preparation, cleaning and some lifting.
