We are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist setting in Sheffield City Centre from September. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), helping them achieve their full potential in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to provide personalised support for pupils with complex learning needs. Every day is different, and you'll play a vital role in enabling pupils to access learning, develop communication skills, and celebrate individual achievements.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting pupils with PMLD on a one-to-one and small group basis.
- Assisting with personal care, moving and handling, and medical needs where required.
- Using a range of communication methods, including Makaton, PECS, or sensory-based approaches.
- Supporting sensory learning activities tailored to individual needs.
- Encouraging independence, confidence, and social interaction.
- Helping to create a positive, stimulating, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure the best outcomes for every pupil.
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Has experience supporting children or young people with PMLD, complex needs, or severe learning difficulties (preferred but not essential).
- Is calm, patient, resilient, and genuinely passionate about SEND.
- Is comfortable supporting personal care and physical needs with dignity and respect.
- Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
- Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or has transferable care/support experience (desirable).
