We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and nurturing SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in North Tyneside on a full-time maternity cover contract starting after May half term. This rewarding opportunity will run from June 2026 through to June 2027 and will involve supporting pupils within the school’s specialist SEN Unit.
The SEN Unit currently supports 12 pupils from Reception through to Year 5, providing a highly structured and supportive learning environment for children with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASD) and Speech & Language difficulties.
The Role:
- Supporting pupils with varying levels of SEN within the SEN Unit
- Providing tailored support to pupils with ASD and Speech & Language needs
- Working on both a 1:1 and 2:1 basis depending on pupil needs
- Supporting pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development
- Assisting with behaviour management and engagement strategies
- Working closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Previous experience working with children with SEN
- Experience supporting pupils with ASD and/or Speech & Language needs
- A calm, patient, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
