We are seeking passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistants who are committed to making a meaningful difference to the lives of vulnerable young people. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU), supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 4.
Children within this setting require structure, stability, and positive role models. Your role will be to support pupils socially, emotionally, and academically, adapting to individual learning styles and helping them re-engage with education in a safe and supportive environment.
This role begins as a temporary placement to ensure the right fit for both you and the school. For the right person, there is a clear pathway to a permanent position, alongside ongoing training and career progression.
The Role
- Work in line with school policies and professional standards
- Support pupils during emotional or behavioural crises and help them manage consequences
- Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Assist pupils to remain focused and engaged in learning
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils
- Support reintegration into class or group settings
- Maintain strong working relationships with staff
- Record and report behavioural incidents as required
- Use restraint training methods where appropriate (Team Teach)
Person Specification
- Minimum 6 months experience in a PRU, Alternative Provision, or similar SEMH setting
- Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 1 or above) or equivalent experience
- Proactive, resilient, and confident using initiative
- Flexible and reliable for temporary work patterns
- Team Teach training desirable (training can be provided)
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
Competitive pay: £12.07 - £14.43 per hour (AWR compliant)
