We are seeking passionate and dedicated teaching assistants specialising in behaviour who are eager to make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable children. If you are committed to supporting and empowering students in a pupil referral unit setting, this is a fantastic opportunity to build a rewarding career while helping young people thrive and succeed. Join us in creating an environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential!

Children attending a pupil referral unit present with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties in students aged between Primary Key Stage 2. The role will involve providing stability, education, and empowerment while also taking into account the learners' individualised, differentiated learning styles. This is to ensure that each learner is integrated socially, emotionally, and educationally.

The initial assignment is to start ASAP and will be to see how well you fit into the setting, which means you need to be fully committed and enthusiastic about making a difference in children’s lives and be willing to use your own initiative to stand out. If the setting you are placed in sees your potential, they will take you on permanently and will provide you with a clear career progression plan.

As a teaching assistant specialising in behaviour, you will operate within agreed professional ethical and school policies when working with pupils and those involved with them:

  • Encourage and support staff in a positive regard and use the restraint training method when presented with difficult escalating behaviours.
  • Support pupils to overcome their crisis and help them deal with the consequences.
  • Assist integration for the child into the rest of the class/group.
  • Maintain good working relationships with other members of staff.
  • Empower pupils and encourage positive regulation of social and emotional skills.
  • Support the child to focus in class and keep them on task to complete work that is set.
  • Develop positive and trusting relationships with the pupils.
  • Listen to the child and offer appropriate support if necessary.
  • Provide information for behavioural records and report back as required.

Job Specification:

  • Must have at least 6 months solid experience working in a pupil referral unit, alternative provision, or similar setting.
  • Level one or above Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Must be proactive in your approach.
  • Flexible in temporary work patterns.
  • Must have Team Teach training or be willing to attend a course.
  • Competitive hourly rate of £13.68 - £14.43 (working 6 hours per day).
  • Enhanced DBS subscribed to update service or willing to apply for one.
