Are you passionate about supporting children with communication and language needs? PK Education are recruiting for a Speech & Language Support Assistant to join specialist Early Years and primary SEND provisions, resource bases and inclusion settings across Leeds from September 2026. This rewarding role will involve supporting pupils with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), autism and additional learning needs. Working alongside teachers, SEND professionals and external therapists, you will play a vital role in helping pupils develop communication skills, confidence and independence.

This role would suit experienced SEND Teaching Assistants, Speech & Language Support Assistants, SALT Assistants, Learning Support Assistants or graduates considering careers in Speech & Language Therapy, Educational Psychology, Occupational Therapy or SEND.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver targeted speech, language and communication interventions to individuals and small groups
  • Support the delivery of SALT programmes and communication interventions under the guidance of Speech & Language Therapists and school SEND teams.
  • Support pupils with speech delays, communication difficulties, autism and social communication needs
  • Track and monitor pupil progress against communication targets and intervention outcomes.
  • Implement therapy programmes and communication strategies recommended by Speech & Language Therapists
  • Encourage the development of expressive and receptive language skills
  • Support the use of visual timetables, communication boards, PECS and other communication systems
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers, SENCO/SENDCOs and therapists
  • Promote positive communication opportunities throughout the school day
  • Support pupils within classrooms, intervention spaces and specialist resource provisions
  • Build positive relationships with families and external professionals
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
  • Experience supporting children with SEND, autism or communication needs
  • A patient, nurturing and encouraging approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of speech, language and communication development
  • Experience within education, childcare, health care or therapeutic settings is desirable
  • Psychology, Childhood Studies, Education, Health & Social Care or Speech & Language graduates are encouraged to apply

Competitive rates of pay from £95 to £115 per day depending on experience and qualifications (AWR compliant).
